US Grade 4 - 6
Beginner Level
In this 10-week online course, students will progress to the level of Beginner in reading and writing skills in the Japanese language. This class teaches Hiragana, Katakana, and basic verb conjugations. Class members will meet 1 time per week. Each weekly meeting will be held lecture-style, with plentiful interaction and prompts to practice speaking aloud. I will ask students to "repeat after me" when practicing speaking and listening skills. Students will be expected to have a notebook or whiteboard to use for practicing the written language. Between meetings, students are encouraged to practice their Japanese on their own to improve their skills. Students are assigned a short writing project to complete between classes. A handout will be provided after each meeting listing the new phrases that were covered. Throughout the class, students are encouraged ask questions about Japanese culture and lifestyle. The curriculum for this course is as follows: Week 1: Introductions, Hiragana and Katakana Week 2: Hiragana 1/3, How Verbs Work Week 3: Hiragana 2/3, Verbs 1 Week 4: Hiragana 3/3, Verbs 2 Week 5: Hiragana: Special Characters Week 6: Katakana 1/3, Verbs 3 Week 7: Katakana 2/3, Verbs 4 Week 8: Katakana 3/3, Verbs 5 Week 9: Katakana: Special Characters Week 10: Comprehensive Review This class is designed to follow "Japanese 1: Grades 4-6". I am happy to answer any specific questions regarding class structure, teaching style, or curriculum coverage.
Learning Goals
Students will establish a strong basic understanding of the first two alphabets in the Japanese written language and become familiar with Japanese culture.

Pre-Requisites
This course is meant to follow Japanese 1: Grades 4-6. This course is only held through the Prisma online school program.

Please be sure each learned comes prepare to practice writing with a notebook, paper, or whiteboard. (A notebook is best, so they can keep their notes for later study).
