Begin your journey through Japan in Tokyo! We’ll explore some of the various neighborhoods, subcultures and intricacies of Tokyo. Students will learn to see things from new perspectives and develop their cross-cultural communication skills.
Class experience
This course is the first part of a greater journey through Japan. It will serve as your introduction to Japan before we dive into a few neighborhoods of Tokyo. Before diving into Tokyo we'll go over where Tokyo is and what we mean when we say Tokyo. We will explore the subcultures that exist throughout Tokyo and discover that there is much more to Tokyo than meets the eye! My teachings are a collection of my time living in Japan, my degree and all of my time spent teaching and learning from my Japanese students here in Boston. I make it a point to learn about the various perspectives of my students and give them ample opportunity to teach as well. The result is that over time my preconceived ideas about Japan and Japanese culture have been tested and now I often find myself asking questions and doing research so I can share the wonderful culture and history with those around me!
