This 360° virtual escape room is based on the life and literary work of Jane Austen, with a special focus on Pride and Prejudice. This course will be fully immersive, while providing an historical context into Pride and Prejudice, and the overall contribution of Jane Austen. Learners will travel back in time to the Regency Period as they answer trivia, solve puzzles, and decode hidden messages for time runs out! Some codes are easier than others. Some codes require critical thinking to determine what a letter/symbol stands for. Each code will reveal interesting facts about Jane Austen and the social history and/or fashion of the Regency Period. This class will utilize an immersive interactive escape room supplemented with images, primary source documents, and short videos. Learners will be paired into groups, and work to complete both rooms by the end of the session! No previous knowledge or reading is required, as this escape room uses characters and themes for learners to develop reading comprehension, team building, and reasoning skills through logic puzzles, biographical video clips and short passages. Moreover, necessary excerpts and required materials will be embedded within the room itself. Leaners will work in teams to open 12 locks around the two virtual rooms. Each puzzle is themed to give students a historical perspective of life, culture and fashion during the Regency Period, and the ways in which this time period shaped Jane Austen's work. Sample Puzzles Include: The First Proposal Reading Puzzle: Learners will develop vocabulary and reading comprehension skills by reading passages from Pride and Prejudice and answer open-ended questions The Dance Card Logic Puzzle: Learners will be introduced to Regency social structure and entertainment in this puzzle. Clutch Your Pearls: Learners will be introduced to Regency table settings and etiquette Dear Jane Letter Puzzle: Learners will decipher a hidden message in a letter Google Earth Mystery location puzzle

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a B.A. in European History and an M.A. in World History, as well as an M.A. in Globalization Studies. I focused my B.A. in European History with a focus on the Middle Ages and Renaissance art and culture to the 19th century. I studied women in the Renaissance period, as well as the historiography of the Renaissance and the Age of Enlightenment. In graduate school, I studied the cultural history of the Europen Enlightenment, as well as historiography from ancient Greece& Rome into the Renaissance and the Enlightenment Era, specifically in the areas of art, politics, culture, and philosophy. I have always had a passion for social an women's history in both European and World History, and feel that this course will provide a fun introduction into that world!
