It's Popeye the Sailor Man! Drawing Class! and Other Classic Cartoons!
What's included

In this class, I will teach students how to use simple shapes and basic drawing skills to draw Popeye the Sailor and characters from the Popeye world, as well as other classic cartoon characters (Beetle Bailey, Peanuts, Flintstones, for example). I will teach by demonstration as students draw along with me. Students will be given a chance to show what they've drawn throughout the sessions (to boost their self esteem and so I can help with any drawing issues). I will most likely give a little history on the characters while we draw. Students will draw multiple angles and facial expressions to better practice drawing the character (practice makes better!). By drawing from classic characters, students will get a chance to practice different styles of cartooning, and they may, hopefully, see similarities in the different styles and draw inspiration from it, as the original artists did when they created these characters! My teaching is pretty loose and fun in spirit. I welcome questions and comments and make a lot of jokes (I'm a bit goofy). *Students are REQUIRED to bring PENCIL, PAPER (more than 1 sheet per session) and a BLACK PEN or MARKER to EACH SESSION. CLASS BREAKDOWN: With every class, the teacher will demonstrate step by step and slowly on camera while students draw along with him. Class 1: Introductions and start drawing simple shapes to draw POPEYE THE SAILOR Class 2: Draw Popeye in motion and how to draw characters moving (different positions, facial expressions, etc) Class 3: Drawing Olive Oyl using simple shapes and facial features and body movement. Class 4: Draw Wimpy and Bluto/Brutus: Larger characters. Class 5: Draw Peanuts characters chosen by students. Here students learn how to draw using a FORMULA: same basic style for certain characters. Class 6: Finish Peanuts characters and add background (practice creating space in art and use the whole picture plane) Class 7: Draw Scooby Doo to practice drawing cartoon animals. Class 8: Draw Garfield. Students will follow along with the teacher to draw the basic shapes that make up Garfield. Class 9: Draw Smurfs. Students will follow along with the teacher to draw the basic shapes that make up a Smurf. Class 10: Draw different characters of different sizes to practice PROPORTION (Smurfs vs. normal person, for example) *With each class, given time, students will be allowed to show their own artwork they've made in class and/or work they made on their own.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
I teach basic drawing and painting skills, as well as portraiture, cartooning and comic book style art! One of the classes I will be teaching will be HOW TO DRAW POPEYE and FRIENDS!
I have been a professional artist for 22 years, focusing on portraiture and realism. I have been drawing cartoon and comic book characters since I was 7 years old, however (that's how I got interested in art!). I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art and 10 years later got my Teaching Certificate in Art Education. I taught all forms of art classes for 10 years at a Summer Art Camp at the Midland Center for the Arts to ages 7-14.
I love cartoons and comic books and often integrate then into my classes, even if it's just a small lesson.
