Class Experience
In this flexible-schedule, 6-week course, students will learn how to create over eighteen different projects with pipe cleaners! This is my “beginner” course, so little to no experience with pipe cleaners is needed. I’ve designed the projects so we start simple and easy, and get more advanced as the weeks go on! A new video will be available each week which will show, step-by-step, how to make that week’s projects. Video tutorials are especially effective when learning how to work with pipe cleaners as learners can pause, as well as rewind and re-watch steps as many times as they need. They can also post any questions that come up while they work in the classroom; I will respond with my advice/guidance as soon as I can! Learners should post pictures of their work (and any comments they have about it) when they finish their projects each week. This gives me and the other learners in class an opportunity to comment on, ask questions, and talk about each student's work together. I believe sharing our art with others, as well as appreciating others’ work, is an important part of the creative process! Throughout our weeks together, I hope to create a welcoming environment for students to feel comfortable to share, critique, and troubleshoot with me and the other learners in class in this way. Week 1: Garden Critters - Caterpillars, Butterflies, & Bunnies (plus Carrots for them to munch on!) Week 2: Reptiles - Snakes, Frogs, & Chameleons Week 3: More Garden Critters - Birds, Bees, & Rainbows Week 4: Sea Animals - Octopi, Snails, Fish (We will also learn how to make spiders, as it’s very similar to making octopi!) Week 5: Food - Cotton Candy, Lollipops, & Tacos Week 6: Flowers - Hyacinths, Six-Petal Flowers, & Rose Rings Generally, only pipe cleaners and scissors are needed for these projects. Because we will be cutting some pipe cleaners, please ensure your learner can use scissors safely or you’re welcome to help them. Students are also more than welcome to use extra supplies, like googly eyes, if they’d like! Because we will be cutting some pipe cleaners, please ensure your learner can use scissors safely or you’re welcome to help them.
Supply List
- Pipe Cleaners! As many colors as you’d like! (If you need, search “craft pipe cleaners” on Amazon to find a variety of different packs.) - Scissors - A pencil or pen--something to wrap pipe cleaners around (I might suggest one skinny tool, like a pen or pencil, and one fatter tool, like a marker.) - Optional: Googly eyes and glue; pom-poms; whatever else you’d like!
