Building confidence is key to any foreign language, and that is what I will be doing through this class. (Italian for Teens 6 is not contingent on students taking Italian for Teens 1-7, although it would be better for them to take those first would help to learn some basics.) Week 1: Students will learn 18 parts of the body including chest, hair, face, feet, etc. These will be given on flashcards with a photograph and the Italian word on each flashcard. Week 2: Students will learn 25 parts of the body including back, hips, lips, freckles, etc. These terms will be given on a 1-page pdf with English, Italian, and photographs. Week 3: Students will learn 15 feelings including happy, confused, angry, etc. Week 4: Students will learn 15 feelings including happiness, sadness, sleepy, etc. Week 5: Students will review and learn 8 more phrases such as I am hungry, I am thirsty, etc. *Each time, we will review the vocabulary from the last lesson. *Students will be given an optional homework (such as PDF, worksheet, etc) *Schedule is subject to change. I will have more Italian classes coming soon: I generally offer more Italian classes based on interest. ------------------------------------------ (If you have younger students, I have classes for them too!). *Also you can request a new time if you need a different time slot. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- This class is mainly for teenagers (13-16): however, I do sometimes make accommodations for some 11-12 year olds. If you have any questions or want your 11/12 year old in the class, message me.
Learning Goals
The goal of this class is to help students get excited and feel confident in learning Italian through learning vocabulary and small dialogues in order to get them interested in foreign languages in college and give them a head start to see if the Italian language interests them to take more of when they attend college.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
We will be going over how to say parts of the body including chest, lips, hips, back, etc that have a digital graphic representation of the body parts on the documents/flashcards of the parts of the body. I expect respect for each other as well as appropriate comments and behavior to learn how to say this vocabulary. If any comments on sex are mentioned in class by students, I will contact the parent about this behavior as I will not put up with inappropriateness and immaturity.
Quizlet may be given as a way to review vocabulary. They will need an account to have access to all questions and to play games while saving their scores.
YouTube will be used in class and posted in the classroom to rewatch videos if extra time permits.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from North Carolina State University
In high school, I was only offered Spanish. I believe that taking foreign language classes opens the doors to many opportunities. My love for language has continued to grow and at university, I took Italian up through Italian Intermediate level. I now give students the opportunity to learn a language that they are interested in and make learning fun. I have even been known to take facts and put them into a tune to help memorize them easier!
