15 in-class hoursHomework
1-2 hours per week. I'll offer a few optional homework assignments each week that students can pick which ones they want to do. These included reviewing printouts, using worksheets with fill in blanks, Quizlets, watching a YouTube video to review pronunciations, etc. These are optional. Homework time varies but generally 1 hour each week.Assessment
We'll take a written and oral test. The students will be each asked 2 questions outloud to answer in Italian and have a written portion of 18 questions. The total 20 questions equate to 5 points each (out of 100). The written portion will be test that I share on the screen and students have to write the answers on the piece of paper and send to me after class to grade.Certificate of Completion
Certificate can be given at the end of both semester for Italian 1 (Semester 1 and 2).Class Experience
Beginner - Intermediate Level
🌟In Italian 1 Semester 1, we will learn greetings, conversation skills, vocabulary, the present tense of regular and irregular verbs, key grammar skills (using articles, prepositions, etc.), and work on reading and translating dialogues. Students will be given printouts and online Quizlet games to review after class. 🌟About the Class: - Using printouts by Twinkl and Knowledge Adventurers - Using the textbook for Ciao 5th edition by Carla Riga and Carla Federci (We'll be using this book which is what a university uses in North Carolina to help them prepare for college. I've used this book with age 11 to 18 and seen success.) - Twice a week - Students will be be given opportunities to not just repeat what I say but also to practice through conversation skills, reading, and review. 🌟Class Structure: - Introductions first week - Learn the lesson of the day (vocabulary, conversation skills, verbs, etc.) - Practice - Review/ Questions - Explained where attachments, homework, links, or games can be found to review after class 🌟Teaching Style: - I encourage students to have fun while learning Italian. I am there to support them at the level they are at, giving help when needed and not giving as many hints when they seem more confident to give them a chance to be more fluent by themselves. - I teach the material while students repeat the words in Italian I say to practice pronunciation. Questions are more than welcome. - In conversation skills, students will be given the opportunity to answer any questions that we learned in class with me there to help them and the screen having information to guide their answer. - Being an experienced Italian teacher since 2019, I adapt my classes style based on the skillset of the students in the course. - This is not an immersion course where I speak in Italian all the time. I will be teaching in English. I find this helps students to feel less intimidated, feel like they can make mistakes and learn, and more importantly gain confidence in Italian! 🌟Student's Italian Level: - Students can come in having no Italian understanding or beginners to intermediate level to learn something new or review. 🌟 Looking for your next semester for Semester 2 Italian 1 in Italian like this? Learning Needs
I have worked with students who have ASD, ADHD (up to severe), dysgraphia, neurodivergent, selective mutism, slow processing speed, and more. I help them gain confidence that they matter, can be themselves, & can learn what we are learning.
Parental Guidance
Students will need to create a Quizlet account with parent's/guardian's permission if they desire to use the optional resource of Quizlet for digital flashcards, digital games, and practice quizzes for what we learn. You can create a free account with ads or pay for a monthly subscription with no ads.
A few times I might add a YouTube video in the classroom to help them review with pronunciation. No account is needed for YouTube as the link will be embedded into the classroom.
Supply List
-Printouts by Twinkl and Knowledge Adventurers, Quizlets, and the end of semester test will be provided for free. -Students will also need Ciao 5th edition by Carla Federici and Carla Riga to be able to follow along more easily though not necessary because of printouts until the Reading Unit. If you purchase the 8th edition instead, I have that too and can share what page numbers for them to use for that instead.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from North Carolina State University
I've taught over 1,000 students Italian online since 2019.
Taking foreign language classes opens the doors to many opportunities. In high school, I took Spanish, and at university, I took up through Intermediate level in Italian.
I now give students the opportunity to learn Italian language by making it fun and engaging through my teaching style, print offs, and Quizlets games.
I have been teaching basic through intermediate Italian courses since January 2019 involving conversation skills, grammar (present indicative, passato prossimo, conjugating verbs with pronouns, adjectives reflecting the correct the-- as there are 7 the's in Italian, and more), as well as vocabulary and fairytale reading classes to make the language to come to life in a fun way.
I have helped students prepare for Italian trips, help English students transition to moving to Italy, as well as students and charters school students just wanting to take my classes for fun or for high school.
Learning Italian isn't just about learning a language but creating a safe space that students feel that they can make mistakes and have fun learning. It's with feeling you have a space to make mistakes that you gain confidence to try and really learn a language.
