Students will exercise their creative thinking and brainstorming strategies as they come up with nontraditional uses for common items. Mrs. Ransom will present an ordinary item (kleenex, cardboard box, toilet paper roll, etc.) for students to transform into a new item. Students will play a quick-thinking game where we "pass" an item and demonstrate its new use. We will read Not A Stick by Antoinette Portis. Students will brainstorm new pages for the story. Students will take the lead as they each have an opportunity to present an item from their home for peers to transform into something new. Students will be challenged to think past their first ideas and come up with creative new uses for common items. Students will communicate, exercise quick thinking, practice fluency of ideas, and celebrate their differences in this interactive class.
