Class Experience

This class will be discussion-based. We'll cover the different ways individuals can grow within themselves and we'll talk about how that can (and will!) affect their social environment! This class is about growth - it is about prioritizing yourself before seeking companionship in others.
We will begin each session with a question and spend some time writing/discussing our responses. After that, I will go through some basic exercises/practices each student can begin to implement in their life. Finally, we will close off each session with a little assignment (nothing too crazy - could be as simple as a conversation!) to get us going! We will watch a variety of videos, read poetry, look at some inspiring art - all to get us thinking and to encourage healthy conversation! These sessions are safe spaces for your child to express themselves!

Sessions 1 + 3:
We will be looking at content that inspires and lifts your students up. We will talk about our strengths, weaknesses, and our uniqueness. These sessions are for exposure and learning. We will focus on filling our cups and what that means for each person.

Sessions 2 + 4:
These sessions are conversation-based. We will uncover some common thought patterns and different ways we can unlearn these behaviors. This is your learner's opportunity to voice their worries and insecurities so that we can work to build each other up.

**It is encouraged that you allow your student privacy and comfort during these sessions to ensure that they're able to fully express themselves.**

Learning Goals

I would like to give these kids the tools to seek fullness within themselves before attempting to find fullness in the world. The goal for this class is to encourage your child to build themselves up and to fill their own cup before seeking to break bread with their peers. I cannot stress the importance of ensuring your child is comfortable in their own skin before encouraging them to delve out into the world of social exploration.

We will be tackling questions like:
- What motivates you to get up in the morning?
- What's the last thing you think of before you go to bed?
- Who are you? Who do you want to be?
- What would you tell your future self? Your past self?

These are just a few of the questions we may be tackling! By the end of this course, your learner will know themselves a little better. They will be more comfortable delving into themselves and unlocking all of the one-of-a-kind potential that they possess.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I'm an Old Dominion University graduate. I've always had a fiery passion for teaching and I'm exceptionally excited to begin embarking on that journey! I completed a World Languages and Cultures major with a double minor in Women's Studies and Arabic - my ambitions and passions have led me to pursue instruction in a global classroom. The importance of teaching youth to pursue knowledge endlessly is what fuels my drive as an aspiring teacher! I hope to work with NGOs focused on educational advocacy for refugees and equip those students with the tools they need to take on the world despite the trauma and pain they've experienced. Education is the orphan of every war - but it is also the foundation of every revolution. I favor classes that teach the arts and literature. Language is also a deep passion of mine - as a signer, English, and Arabic speaker - I know the importance of the ability to acquire a multitude of tongues. In essence, I would like to inspire kids to become life-long learners!
