In this ongoing math and art combination class, students will learn and use different math concepts to create a different work of art each week.

Class experience

Learners will discover just how interconnected math and art are while learning new topics and techniques.
I am a homeschooling mom of five kids, ranging in age from ten to nineteen. We are diving into our 6th year of homeschooling and we love it. I have a passion for both education and creativity and I love combining the two whenever I can. When I'm not teaching (my kids or someone else's), I run a business based purely on creativity and art.

Traveling (and 8 years of formal classes) gave me a handle on the Spanish language. I have a background in general education from 19 years of combined experience teaching in public and charter school settings, as well as tutoring one on one, ESL, and running various camps and activities. My experience ranges from childcare (infant) age all the way through high school age and includes work with neurodiverse and special needs students, as well as students with mental health issues.

I have a passion for, and educational background in Graphic Art/Design, however, my degrees are AA in Liberal Studies and a BA in General Studies with a concentration in Psychology. I am also TESOL certified.
Week 1: card stock, scissors, drawing paper, pencil, coloring supplies, scotch tape, black outlining marker
Week 2: card stock, scissors, drawing paper, pencil, coloring supplies, black outlining marker

Week 5: graph paper, pencil, and coloring supplies (markers or colored pencils work best for this project)

Week 7: ruler, drawing paper, pencil, coloring supplies
Week 8: drawing paper, ruler, coloring supplies (we need red, blue, and yellow for this one. - markers work best if available), black electrical or washi tape (approximately 1/2” wide, a little bigger or smaller is no big deal)
Week 9: Lightweight construction/colored paper in various colors, scissors, 1 small rubber band
Week 10: Several lengths of yarn (string or twine work as well, but not thread, drawing paper, washable acrylic or tempera paint in several colors, water, a plastic spoon, plastic cups or bowls (for paint), popsicle sticks for stirring
Week 11: Colored paper in various colors (if you have access to paint color chips those work really well for this project), scissors, drawing paper, glue/glue stick
Week 12: printed template (provided prior to class) scissors, pencil, black outlining marker, glue stick and/or scotch tape, coloring supplies
Week 13: Paper plate, scissors, ruler, colored string (yarn is good), scotch tape, hole punch, coloring supplies
Crafting can be an inherently messy activity. Please make sure that your learner has a space where they can see our lesson and participate safely, but also make a bit of a mess without ruining your favorite couch.
