Hello learners and grown ups! In this new 10 week course we will pick up where we left off in the previous class (https://outschool.com/classes/popular-irish-jigs-for-fiddleviolin-i-BTvdTv8I?usid=0UuhWEjL&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link), continuing to learn more double and single jigs. In this class, however, we will also introduce slip and hop jigs. It is recommended that your learner take the previous class before taking this one, but is not required. This class is suitably for learners who are at a later-beginner through advanced level. Having at least two or three years of playing experience for this class is recommended. The weekly class tune outline is: Week one: The Three Drummers Week two: The Lark in the Morning Week three: The Butterfly Week four: The Connaughtman’s Rambles Week five: Out on the Ocean Week six: Fig for a Kiss Week seven: Smash the Window Week eight: Morrisson’s Jig Week nine: Happy to Meet and Sorry to Part Week ten: The Rocky Road to Dublin I will be providing the sheet music as well as a recording for each tune a few days prior to each class so learners can have a chance to prepare ahead of time. Learners who play either by ear or by reading music will be accommodated. If your learner is interested in Celtic music, American folk music, bluegrass or other roots and folk-style music please check out the variety of other class options I have available as well.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello parents and learners!

I grew up on a farm in Tennessee (USA) and in addition to music I also love raising rabbits, pollinator gardening, and reading! I and my husband currently live with our five beautiful children in the state of North Carolina. I am excited to be part of the Outschool family!
Music has always been a big part of my life, starting with classical piano, which I began at age 8, taking private lessons from a professor at the University of Tennessee. Later on, in my teens, my interests shifted to strings and traditional Appalachian and Celtic music. I learned from many people, including bluegrass musician Justin Moses and as a student of Jim Wood at the Jim and Inge Wood School of Music. As a young adult, I worked as a volunteer interpreter at Cade’s Cove, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, teaching park visitors about Appalachian music. I have played professionally for weddings and other events, in restaurant house bands, as well as at the Museum of Appalachia in Norris, TN. I have led traditional music demonstrations for public school classes, in addition to teaching privately for many years.
I am passionate about introducing young people to traditional Appalachian and Celtic music and helping them perfect their skills!
I primarily teach fiddle/violin and Appalachian old-time and Celtic music, but also bluegrass, Western swing and Texas contest-style fiddle. I also play guitar, both standard and Celtic (DADGAD), piano, mandolin, recorder, penny whistle, mountain dulcimer, ukulele and Irish bouzouki.
I see each learner as a unique individual and cater my teaching approach to best suit their needs and interests.
