In this 4 week course, students will learn the basics of investing including Savings Accounts, CDs, Stocks, and Mutual Funds as ways to help secure financial independence for the future.

Homework
1 hour per week. Homework will be very limited, however there will be a Stock Market Project where the student pick stocks and monitor them between Week 3 & Week 4. The students will then give a brief presentation during class Week 4 on how the stocks that they chose performed, and why they chose those stocks.
Assessment
Students progress will be assessed by their completion and competency during their Stock Market Project. No letter grades will be given for this course, unless requested by parent.

Class Experience

Welcome to Investing for Beginners!  In this class we will explore the basics of investing by looking at the various types of investments, understanding the vocabulary and how the investment types work, understanding both the upside and risk associated with the various investment options.  This course will be taught assuming that the learner has zero previous exposure to the concepts involved in investing and managing money, and we will be working to build a solid base of knowledge that the student can grow for the rest of their life.

The course is 4 weeks, and will follow the following schedule:

Week 1: Savings, Savings Bonds, & CD's
Week 2: Stocks and the Stock Market
Week 3: Stocks and Mutual Funds, also begin Stock Market Project
Week 4: Wrap-up and Students Present Stock Market Project

The learning goals of this class will be to build a solid base of understanding of the basic concepts and tools for investing that everybody should have an understanding of to add security to their futures.

Supply List
The student will need a computer/ internet access for Weeks 3 & 4 in order to track their stocks for the Stock Market Project.

I have a Master of Business Administration.  I have 3 years of experience teaching business, economics, and finance classes at the Junior/Career college level, in addition to 3 years of classroom experience teaching middle and high school students, and 1 year of experience as an elementary & middle school principal.    Finally, I have 4 four years experience as a National Football League Players Association Certified Contract Advisor, during which time I negotiated contracts, as well as helped to educate my clients as to the proper ways to prepare themselves for financial independence after their sports careers had ended.  It is this same passion to help young people build financial security and freedom that I enables me to guide students.
