Specific investigative skills that will used in all science classes going further will be taught. Examples: Venn diagramming, concept maps, mathematical sequences, foldable examples, summary reports, public speaking techniques for science projects, reading illustrations, creating diagrams, following lab steps, compare/contrast mapping
Mrs. Collins has been teaching for 23 years in science. She is certified in science, ag education and gifted studies. She knows first hand how students in the school system are lacking investigative skills. This is her attempt at teaching those skills needed that were possibly missed in earlier elementary science classes or skipped over without a full understanding of how much investigative skills help students succeed in science, write papers in science, and effectively perform labs.
1 file available upon enrollmentspiral notebook (very important) pencil coloring pencils pen notecards glue stick pot for stove bottled water sugar salt play-dough or clay ruler gluestick stapler tape cornstarch flour coffee filters plastic spoons paper plate clear cups baking soda vinegar steel wool plastic gloves googles (swim or safety is fine) food coloring shaving cream bubble soap optional: film canister, alza seltzer tablets, hand lens, graduated cylinder If the student doesn't have the supplies, please do not worry. Videos will be presented on all labs so students can watch videos instead.
