Class Experience

Invertebrate Investigations explores the diverse world of invertebrates. Discover why invertebrates are important and learn how investigate the invertebrates in your own backyard. Students will learn how to identify common groups of invertebrates The workshop is designed to provide information and skills that will enable you and your students to conduct an invertebrate survey in your backyard or local area.

Students will be able to ask questions at various points throughout the session. I use live insects to highlight their features and I also share a slide presentation with amazing invertebrate images.

There is a structure to the session including the following areas:
- What are invertebrates?
- Looking at the variety of habitats
- Protecting environments

However my teaching style is organic and is directed by the students questions. I believe flexibility is the key to learning and the students enthusiasm and questions lead the direction of the session

After the session I also have follow up resources where students can continue their exploration.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My key focus is Earth and Environmental Science programs. I have been developing and delivering Earth and Environmental Education programs for the last 20 years and I am a passionate advocate of hands on learning. Over the years I have developed a range of programs to make learning natural science easy.

Workshops are designed to empower the students and provide them with the knowledge and skills to continue their learning. They will help increase the students' scientific literacy and critical thinking skills by participating in experiments, fieldwork and asking question.

In 2009 I began focusing on digital delivery of programs across Australia and I believe in the importance of virtual excursions as a learning platform. I think the best way is to participate in live, interactive video conference sessions. This enables students to ask questions and really be involved in their online education, interact not simply watch a video.
