This is an introduction to yoga. Students will learn some basic yoga poses (asanas) and simple breathing techniques to go along. Additionally, students will be introduced yoga philosophy. I believe that yoga brings a lot of wonderful benefits including building more confidence and dealing with everyday stresses that come with the teenage years. Several yoga poses and breathing techniques that go along with the poses. The poses will be shown in proper alignment and then we will use them for some movement. A simple introduction to yoga philosophy.
I am an experienced, registered yoga teacher E-RYT (500hrs) and hold various other specific related trainings. I have been teaching for several years and practicing yoga for over a decade. My greatest passion are my children, both who started yoga, breathing exercises and meditation, while in their high school years. They continue to carry these tools with them, and I have seen tremendous benefit for them by doing so. I believe these are gifts we can give to ourselves at any time. Having this knowledge and benefiting from it makes me want to share it. I believe we all can highly benefit from a reset during the course of the day whether through a yoga class, simple breath exercise or short meditation.
Encourage students to practice yoga poses on their own on days off; this will help them to strengthen their ability to do the poses and also see the benefits.
Preferably a yoga mat, otherwise clear floor space with some cushioning like a rug. Ensure to have enough open space to move. Comfortable loose clothing and bare feet or non-slip socks recommended.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will guide the students, watching them get into the poses. Otherwise, the goal is for them to continue to use the poses for their benefit.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
This is an active class, with both simple and stronger poses. It is recommended that parents discuss with their children the importance of listening to the instructor to ensure they do the poses with the proper form and alignment for safety. I will instruct students properly into each pose and continuously reiterate the importance of listening to instruction into the pose and to ensure it feels okay. Thank you.
