Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this class we will take a look at some of the possibilities available for those who are interested in veterinary careers. We will discuss a variety of professions within veterinary medicine, and some of the specialties that have emerged. Week 1- Veterinary team member roles. What is the difference between the roles of the veterinary practice team members? We will discuss the Veterinary technology and veterinary assistant career paths and how they are each vital parts of the practice team. What are the duties of the technician and assistant? Week 2- The Veterinarian. There are a huge variety of career paths for veterinarians! We will brainstorm some of the possible places that veterinarians work and the variety of roles that they play. Week 3- Specialities - Both Veterinary technicians and veterinarians have ways to further their education to become a specialist in an area that they are particularly passionate about. We will look at some of the veterinary technician specialties and also the ways a doctor can become board certified in a veterinary specialty. This class will be discussion based with additional carefully selected safely embedded video links provided after class for further information.

I have been a certified veterinarytechnician for more than 30 years, have a MEd from Colorado State University and a Master of Veterinary Education (MVEd) from Lincoln Memorial University’s School of Veterinary Medicine.
I have been teaching at local community colleges in veterinary Assistant Programs and a variety of Veterinary Science programs for grades 3-5, 6-8, and high school. I also teach at a private university in an equine studies program.
I am also a homeschool mom! At home, my family has 2 mini horses, 4 Nigerian dwarf goats, 6 chickens and 4 cats!
I am absolutely passionate about sharing my experience and love for animals and veterinary medicine with others and would love to help your children explore this amazing field with a variety of possible careers so I can be a part of the future of more veterinary professionals!
