This course will cover 6 main theories in psychology, 1 weekly including: behaviorist, psycho-dynamic, humanistic, cognitive, cognitive-behavioral and biological theories. The class will be structured to cover one theory weekly with an overview by the instructor followed by classroom discussion. The students will enjoy learning the material by interactive discussions and scenarios in which the student can view each theory at work. Students will improve their understanding of 6 psychological theories: Week 1: behaviorist, psychodynamic, Week 2: cognitive, biological, Week 3: cognitive behavioral, humanistic Week 4: comparison of all theories and open discussion The student will learn about the founder of each theory, what lead to the theory and how it may or may not be a practical approach used currently.
I have a MS in Psychology and have practiced for the last 15 years. I have experience in private practice, teaching and management. My love of the field and teaching style which makes it relevant to students make this a fun and unforgettable class!
The student will be asked to research the theory covered each week to gain additional information which they can share at the beginning of the following class. This is voluntary homework and assigned to increase student interaction.
A one-page handout summarizing the theories will be provided at the first session.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
A quiz will be offered at the conclusion of classes. This quiz is optional, should a parent desire a grade, please let the teacher know in advance.
