The students will be provided an introduction to the five-step writing process, four different purposes for writing, and the importance of giving consideration to the reading audience. The class is structured to provide written and oral descriptions of each area of the writing presented. Then students will have an opportunity to collaborate to complete a guided practice activity. Objective 1: After reviewing the steps in the writing process, the students will identify and label a paragraph with the correct writing steps. Objective 2: After examining examples of the purposes for writing, students will match a list of written products with their purpose (to entertain, to persuade, to explain, to inform). Objective 3: Students will read a paragraph written for a young audience and revise the paragraph to be more appropriate for young readers using five guiding questions.
