Young writers will be provided a 30-minute introduction to the five steps of the writing process, the purposes for writing, and the importance of giving consideration to the reading audience.

Class experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Objective 1: After reviewing the steps in the writing process, the students will identify and label a paragraph with the correct writing steps.
Objective 2: After examining examples of the purposes for writing, students will match a list of written products with their purpose (to entertain, to persuade, to explain, to inform).
Objective 3: Students will read a paragraph written for a young audience and revise the paragraph to be more appropriate for young readers using five guiding questions.

The students will be asked to name the five steps of the writing process, name the four purposes of writing, and explain the importance of knowing the needs of the audience who will be reading their writing.
