Class Experience

Welcome creatives! Are you ready to create a wonderful, totally unique piece of art? I hope so because in this introductory class on acrylic paint pouring students will learn the basics of paint pouring: how to get canvas ready, preparing the acrylic paints to pour, additives that can be added to the paints, choosing colors, and one basic pour. After introductions and getting to know one another, we will prepare our canvas for the paint. Once the canvases are ready, we will talk about color choices and how to mix the paints so they are ready to flow across the canvas. When the paints are mixed to the right consistency, the students will be instructed on how to do the basic "dirty pour." The learners will be able to watch step-by-step as I also create a painting with them. The students will be amazed by their own beautiful piece of art that will form before their eyes! The students will be given instructions on how long the paintings will take to dry and how to seal them if they choose to.

During the instruction, I will check-in with the learners to make sure they are understanding the directions. Discussion and questions during the lesson will be encouraged.

This is a messy form of painting, so please be warned. Parents may want to be around to help Tarps, garbage bags taped together, and/or aluminum cookie sheets can be used to help contain the mess and protect the floors and furniture from the paint. Also, I advise the wearing of gloves and old clothes to help you stay mostly paint free.

**Please read through the supply list to make sure that you have everything that you need. Most of the items can be found at the dollar store, craft store, or on Amazon.

Parental Guidance
A parent should be close by since this class is a tad messy and in case the student needs help with out-of-control paint.
Supply List
Please look closely over the supply list to make sure you have everything you need. I will also include a check-list of the supplies that can be printed off. All of the supplies can be found at the dollar store or craft store. However, Flood floetrol will be found at HomeDepot or on Amazon.
-tarp or garbage bags taped together
-aluminum cookie sheet
-disposable gloves
-old clothes or smock
-plastic or paper cups (4 or 5)
-popsicle sticks for stirring
-1 or 2 canvases, 8"x10" (or similar size) will be fine for this class, but you can get something bigger if you want, just know that the larger your canvas, the more paint you will need. (DO NOT get canvas board, the board will curl as it dries and can ruin your painting.)
-acrylic paints, any brand is fine
-Elmer's glue or Flood floetrol
-rubbing alcohol, dish soap, or silicone oil (spot on treadmill oil, 3-1 silicone, coconut milk hair serum)
-Not necessary, but helpful: masking/painter's tape, 4 tacks.

Hi everyone! I am a graduate of Western Washington University with a B.A. in English and a minor in art history. I grew up in Washington State but have lived out on the east coast for most of my adult life. I have been a nanny, homework coach, and tutor for over 20 years. I love working with younger children and teens to help them realize the potential within. I work with kids ages 4 to 18 in reading, reading comprehension, reading remediation, grammar, language arts, elementary/middle school math, pre-algebra, organizational/study skills, HSPT, and ISEE exams.

Whenever I work with a child, whether it's in academics, art/crafting, or baking, I meet the child where they are and build them up from there; I am patient, kind, and understanding. Every child must know that a mistake is not a bad thing, just one step on the path to learning something new and that these steps are the building blocks of understanding.

During my free time, I love to paint, craft, and bake! I have been creating art and crafts for the last ten-plus years and selling them at local shows. I make 3-D paper flowers, burlap wreaths, stamped coasters, work with alcohol inks, fluid painting, watercolor painting, decoupage, and bookbinding. I hope to share all of these with the learners on Outschool!

Finally, I love to bake and cook! I used to sell my bread at a local farmers' market when I lived in Washington State. I am continually trying a new recipe or perfecting one of my own to share with everyone. When I was a nanny, baking and cooking were two of my favorite things to do with the kids. I taught them to bake cookies, bread, breakfast, and even how to roast a chicken.

Thank you for allowing me to work with your children and helping them realize they can do whatever they set their minds to. The only limits they have are the ones they place on themselves.
