Description

Class Experience

Ms. Sarah has a master's degree in education and Montessori certification, plus over 20 years of elementary classroom experience. She enjoys helping students understand abstract concepts using math materials that make sense to them and seeing those ah-ha moments when students grasp a difficult concept for the first time.
Math problems will be provided in the Outschool classroom. Students are expected to practice multiplication for a little while every day using a material of their choice.
90 Tokens such as Buttons or Pennies OR Green Unit Stamps from the Montessori Stamp Game Montessori Multiplication Board and Beads Montessori Bead Frame (large or small) or Abacus Montessori Stamp Game - May be purchased online for approximately $25 USD OR Everyday objects (about 40 each of 3 distinct colors) that can be used in place of the Montessori Stamp Game include but are not limited to: poker chips, beads, cardstock cut into 1 inch / 3 cm squares Montessori Checkerboard (may be handmade out of cardboard and felt squares or hand-sewn) - if purchased online, the cost may be anywhere from $15 - $75 USD
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Parents are encouraged to watch my class YouTube videos along with their child and to supervise their child's use of the materials to ensure understanding. This class will cover a variety of materials so that the child will have a variety of ways to practice multiplication and to internalize their understanding of this math operation. Some students will be drawn to certain materials and may not like others. Where applicable, different levels of difficulty will be presented with the materials so that, with practice and time, your child will be able to advance through each material. Please contact the teacher with any questions throughout this class.

While YouTube is not intended for visit and use by children under 13 (and thus a non-COPPA compliant resource), Outschool has developed a way for educators to use YouTube videos in their classes in a legally compliant way. All educators need to do is add the YouTube link to their Classroom Post – Outschool embeds the link on its platform so that learners remain on the Outschool platform and don’t access the YouTube website.
