Cooking: Sushi Making With Chef Andy
In this class students will have the chance to learn how to make sushi from scratch as well as add their own ingredients if class permits. This class will be full hands on and dedicated to sushi rolling and a little sushi history. Students can also join in to watch if they don't want to follow along.
Class experience
Students will be learning techniques and methods on how to do traditional making rolls by watching and interacting with a full hands on demonstration on knife skills and sushi rolling. Students will be able to follow along on cutting their vegetables and rolling techniques. Topics that will be covered during this class are what ingredients can we use to make sushi and how to use them to their extend if you have any leftover ingredients. No skills required.
Students will learn knive skills if parents permit it. They will learn different cuts and more about healthy options to add to sushi rolls.
Ingredients: Sushi Seaweed , 1.5 cup cooked sushi rice, seasoned rice vinegar or sushi vinegar, 1/2 cucumber, 1/2 avocado, 1 scallion. Optional: smoked salmon or crab meat Equipment: Cutting board, knife, sushi mat (optional) or parchment paper, mixing bowl, wood or rice spoon, measuring spoons, small bowl of water to dip hands when rice is sticky.
Knive handling or allergy concerns. Parents can cook rice before class so this class involves no heat for younger kids. Parents: Please ask questions if your kids need help with something or didn't understand something.
