Shakespeare is considered by many to be the greatest writer in the history of the English Language, but why? What makes him so popular? Why do we have to study him in school, and why does it seem like he’s quoted by everyone? In this course, I will cover Shakespeare's life and career by bringing up a presentation on his life in Stratford, his early years as a dramatist, the theater company he worked with, and the types of plays he produced. This class is taught in English.
-Students will learn the basic facts of Shakespeare's life from his birth in 1564 to his death in 1616. -Students will gain an appreciation for the hundreds of words and phrases Shakespeare added to the English Lexicon - Students will be able to name and describe the three types of plays Shakespeare wrote - Students will learn the conventions of audience address, doubling, and Universal Lighting; the ubiquitous staging practices of Elizabethan theater.
Homework Offered
Homework- post a phrase you used in the past week that was inspired by Shakespeare. Short writing Assignment- Read a plot summary about a Shakespeare play and then compare it to a modern book, play, show, or movie. Look for similar characters, plot, and themes.Assessments Offered
The students will be assessed with a participation certificate, but only if they engage in the class (ask questions, etc), and do the writing assignments.Grades Offered
