Summer Grammar Camp: Basic Sentence Diagramming

NOTE: If your learner has already studied with me in the 4th/5th Grade ELA Spring Semester (or plans to), please note that this material is also included in the Sentence Diagramming Unit of that course. You're absolutely welcome to join as a refresher or a preview, but the material will be identical.

In this six-session course, students will explore the basics of sentence diagramming and word functions - perfect as either an introduction or a review. It provides a strong foundation for more advanced grammar studies later. As students learn to visualize sentence structure, they gain confidence in their ability to "see" how sentences work.

A familiarity with the parts of speech is recommended for this class. Full mastery isn’t necessary, but students should have some prior exposure.

We’ll focus on how words function in a sentence, learning to identify subjects, predicates, modifiers, direct and indirect objects, prepositional phrases, predicate adjectives, and more - representing these functions with a visual diagram of the word relationships.

Lessons will include a mix of engaging materials such as PowerPoint presentations, worksheets, collaborative activities, and in-class diagramming practice.

The course is designed for ages 9–14, but if your learner falls outside that range and you think it may be a good fit, feel free to reach out!

Class 4: Telling More About It – Modifiers (Adjectives and Adverbs)

Class 5: In Relation To – Prepositional Phrases as Modifiers

Class 6: The Extras – Interjections and Spectacular Sentence Diagrams!
