Beginner Level
In this class, students will learn the basic things necessary to do simple research and how to write research reports and proposals. The following outline will be used weekly; Week 1: What is a scientific research and Importance of research in science Week 2: Scientific methods in research Week 3: Laboratory Safety and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Week 4: How to choose research topics Week 5: How to write research proposals correctly Week 6: How to carry out the research proper after choosing the topic of interest Week 7: What is Plagiarism, how bad it is and how to avoid plagiarizing Week 8: Citing and acknowledging all the sources of information when writing reports Week 9: Students will choose topic of interest and write a proposal on that topic Week 10: Acceptance and correction of proposals submitted by students Week 11: Writing of the research reports by students Week 12: Submissions and corrections of reports submitted by students and feedbacks Once a week, the topic or activity for the week will be introduced via any of the following; recorded videos, google doc, slides or any other accepted format as allowed by Outschool. All communication will remain in Outschool. Student will then, respond, ask questions or comment as applicable.
