Does speaking in public scare you? Do you just want a little practice? Did you know there's a method to the madness? In this class you'll learn the types of communication & public speaking, how to formulate a speech, and try your hand at speaking. We'll cover how to give an introductory speech, an impromptu speech, an informative speech, and a persuasive speech. I'll assign some homework along the way (preparing and practicing your speeches, etc.) I love a classroom filled with on-topic...
Students will learn the basics of preparing and giving several types of speeches.
I have a Master's degree in Professional Communication and have taught public speaking courses previously. I thoroughly enjoy teaching this material to high school students and helping them gain confidence in speaking.
Between our class sessions students will be expected to prepare and practice their speeches. I will be reviewing their outlines and giving them advice and guidance along the way. Depending on the length of the speech, determines the length of time they could spend working on it. I would guess about 2 hours a week.
Students will need paper and something to write with to take notes in our class sessions. There are no other supplies required.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I am happy to provide a letter grade or provide an assessment in another form at the parents request.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
All speech topics will be pre-approved to ensure content of the subject is age appropriate and to try to keep a neutral classroom.
The materials taught in this class have been gathered through various textbooks and created by me. The speech topics we will be practicing with are all original, and best practices taught in class have been things I have learned through trial and error.
