Class Experience

Everyone has a story to tell, a message to share. Everyone, at some point, will need to speak in front of others, whether that's in a classroom setting or a social setting, whether it's sharing information or speaking passionately about a cause they believe in. Sometimes HOW that message is shared is as important as WHAT is shared. If you are looking for a safe space to introduce your learners to public speaking, a place to begin to gain comfort and practice finding their voice, you've come to the right place!

This one-time class will give learners an overview of how to improve public speaking skills while playing fun games to gain experience communicating with others.

We will briefly discuss the acronym PVLEGS (Poise, Voice, Life, Eye Contact, Gestures, and Speed), with strategies for improving these aspects of our public speaking. Learners will not be writing speeches, but will instead be learning about engaging in public speaking in a way that can apply to any future public speaking opportunities.

During this class we will play "Sell me a..." and "Gush about something you hate" to give all students an opportunity to practice speaking in front of others.

Both reluctant and experienced speakers are welcome for this fun, engaging class. The focus of this class is to give an overview of public speaking, and to provide a low-stress, practical way for students to improve their public speaking skills. Because of the nature of this class, when possible cameras should be on when students are speaking; it is preferred that they are on for the entire class.

An expanded version of this class is offered in an ongoing, weekly format.
