In this 10-week class, we will take an introductory look at psychology, its theories, and famous people in the field. We will cover these topics by using google slides presentations, short video clips, class discussion and Kahoot review. I teach in an interactive way and love involving students in discussion. I have a Bachelor if Arts degree in Child Development and a minors in psychology and family development. I am excited to share my love for psychology and human development with students. Psychology is a vast subject. This course will introduce students to some of the major historical theories from psychology and my goal is for students to gain. love for the subject and a desire to learn more in the future. Week 1 - Introduction, What is psychology? Wilhelm Wundt - the father of psychology Week 2 - Research methods, nature vs nurture Week 3 - Psychoanalytic theories: Freud - conscious and unconscious mind Week 4 - Behaviorist theories: Watson, Skinner and Pavlov Week 5 - Humanism: Maslow's hierarchy of needs Week 6 - Cognitive Psychology: how does memory work? Week 7 - Social Psychology: bystander effect, Stanley Milgram experiment Week 8 - Human development: Jean Piaget stages of cognitive development, attachment theory- Mary Ainsworth Week 9 - Human development: Erikson's theory of psychosocial development, language theory, how do we learn to speak? Piaget/Chomsky Week 10 - Review and student presentations (students will choose a psychological theorist and research their life and work to present to the class)

I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child Development with minors in psychology and family development from the University of Akron. I am a Certified Child Life Specialist and have experience working in a hospital setting with children and adolescents. The role of a child life specialist is to provide evidence-based, developmentally and psychologically appropriate interventions including therapeutic play, preparation for procedures, and education to reduce fear, anxiety, and pain. Child life specialists are trained in the developmental impact of illness and injury.
