Description
Class Experience
In this course, students will learn: Proper posture Finger numbers Right and left hands High and low sounds Loud and soft sounds Long and short sounds Ear training Copying basic rhythms Playing basic songs on black and white keys
Students will be assigned songs to practice at home. Practice is cumulative. Practicing for shorter time spans, more frequently, will allow students to build upon what they have learned. For this age group, 5 - 10 minutes a day works well. However, I know schedules get very busy. Only you will know what works best for your family!
For this class, you will need Faber's My First Piano Adventure for the Young Beginner book - Lesson Book A (Pre-Reading). The book listed below is with online audio. There is another version with a cd. https://www.amazon.com/My-First-Piano-Adventure-Lesson/dp/1616776196/ref=sr_1_1?crid=OMG624RPGK7V&keywords=faber+piano+adventures+for+the+young+beginner&qid=1652890154&sprefix=faber+piano+adventures+for+the+young+beginner%2Caps%2C756&sr=8-1 Other materials needed for class: pencil, crayons scrunchie, hair tie or watch to help determine right from left (optional) stickers for marking Middle C and at least 1 octave
Each student will be given opportunities to play individually for the teacher. This will allow me to give individual feedback and check for proper understanding.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
For young learners, I recommend that a parent or helper assist in the initial setup before class (labeling Middle C and at least 1 octave with stickers....garage sale stickers work well for this, identifying right/left hands, camera placement to allow me to see both your child's face and keyboard*). *For camera placement, some of my private students have found the use of an overhead mount useful. Others place their cameras off to the side. For the purposes of this class, I ask that you try to make 1 camera work so as not to confuse the other students or myself. I will have a camera angled at my hands and one at my face.
