Introduction to Music: Notes, Rhythms, Keys - Individual Lessons for Beginners
Class experience
Beginner Level
This class is designed as a precursor or supplement to instrument or singing lessons. Especially when starting a new instrument, it can be helpful to separate the mechanics of the instrument from all of the other details of the music such as notation, etc. Even just learning to hold an instrument can be overwhelming, and I often find that my students have the most success with notes, rhythms, and keys if they are practicing these skills separately from playing their first notes on a new...
Students will learn: -Learn to clap, speak, recognize, and compose basic rhythms -Learn about different meters, time signatures, & how to recognize them -Learn about intervals such as whole steps, half steps, octaves, fifths, thirds, etc. -Learn about dynamics and common musical terminology -Learn to read notes on a staff in treble clef, bass clef, or other clefs depending on instrument interest -Learn about key signatures & scales and how to write them -Learn about the different instruments that make up an orchestra and other ensembles such as string quartets, etc.

I recommend that students spend ~5 minutes per day reviewing concepts we discussed in the previous week's lesson or practicing the skills. Of course, more exercises and practice can be recommended if desired.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
