Class Experience

This one time course children will be introduced to rhythm, melody, dynamics, pitch, tempo, and duration. This class will be interactive and fun. A PowerPoint presentation will be used to illustrate concepts. I will use real world examples such as cars, and animal sounds. In addition, the child will learn that their bodies are instruments. We will listen to song selections and explain how it makes the child feel. The first will be Hakuna Matata for happy feeling and Be Prepared for a frightened feeling. At the end we will use our body movements to play rhythmic notes I Can’t Wait to Be King from the Lion King.  

 My teaching style is very interactive and I make learning fun. I make concepts are easy to learn. Learners need to bring their minds and their willingness to learn. The class will be ages 3 -7 years old. The class size will be 3-6 children in order to keep interaction at a high level and make sure each learner gets the attention needed. 

We will be following the sample Music Curriculum for Virginia Public Schools for kindergarteners. There will be a summarized version for the first class.

There will light physical activity. Please be sure to have a space where your child can clap, stomp, pat, shout and or snap.

Hello, my name is Mr. Ian Roberts. I teach music theory, intro to music, music history and music appreciation, Reading and Writing Music Other classes will come. I have been a professional musician for many years as a bassist. I produced a song that was #39 on the smooth Jazz Charts and I have a B.A. in Music and Minor in Business. 

I believe music is a language anyone can learn regardless of talent. I like to eat vegan junk food and exercise really hard so I don't regret it.
