Introduction to Museums
Class experience
US Grade 7 - 9
Students will learn about how Museums acquire their collections, where they get them from and how to verify the authenticity through provenance. Additionally they will learn how the type of museum and mission of an museum impacts what they will acquire. We will examine various collections from museums throughout the United States and critically examine their mission and even identify the type of Museum (example: Open Air, Living History, History, Science, Children's). At the end of the lesson, students should be able to identify various types of Museums, and at minimum, know how an Museum acquires their collections.
I have an degree in Public History, have taken classes on Museum Studies, and have five years of experience in Museums.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
