This class is for students who are ready to be introduced to the concept of multiplication or need some remediation with this skill. We will start at the beginning and learn what multiplication actually means. By the end of the course students will be confident in solving multiplication problems with a strategy that they are able to perform accurately. Students will understand what it means to multiple. Students will understand that multiplication is a form of repeated addition. Students will know how to identify an multiplication word problem. Students will be able to identify four different multiplication strategies Students will be able to accurately solve a multiplication problem. Students will know multiplication vocabulary words and their meaning such as: factors, product, rows, and columns.
I have taught multiplication in the traditional classroom for 6 years.
Each week students will complete an activity at home and upload a photo of it to the Outschool classroom. Each week students will have a discussion on flipgrid where they will record a video and respond to other students. There will be optional daily practice for the students.
Hands on manipulatives can be beneficial. You can use any kind of markers, cubes, or even pennies. Optional homework can be printed off but also solved on paper.
I will provide either written or video feedback within 24 hours of the student's post.
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
