Welcome to middle school! This is an exciting time! After teaching middle school for over 20 years, I know what middle schoolers are most worried about when starting school. In this workshop, we will learn- *the #1 most important skill to have in middle school, and how to manage it! (know what it is?) *a few effective techniques for making a friend (or 2, or 3, or...) *how to open a locker- and what to do if it doesn't open! *how to ask for help and who to ask without being afraid. *strategies for being the best student you can be. *all of the wonderful things about being in middle school! This workshop will be a mixture of interactive games, a few slides, and class discussions. All I ask is that learners are respectful and kind throughout the workshop. I encourage learners to write me questions in the classroom and I will do my best to answer them in class. Peer pressure and bullying will be briefly discussed, but they deserve more time. I hope to add a workshop on these topics once school starts. I am excited to teach this workshop and I know your child will be more excited about middle school afterward! Please message me with any questions or concerns.
Learning Goals
*Learners will lessen their nervousness about starting middle school by learning a few strategies to get them ready for the big day.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and thank you for visiting my page! My name is Lynette Wehner. I am a certified elementary teacher, and a certified Holistic Wellness Coach and I LOVE helping kids explore the world and themselves!
I taught middle school science for over 20+ years and beginning theater for about 10 years and nothing makes me more geeked than to get kids to think, talk, ask questions and explore the world around them! I am so excited to be working on OutSchool because I have met so many awesome learners and nice parents!
I am a digital nomad and travel around the country. My favorite topics are environmental science, plate tectonics, theater, and holistic health! I LOVE coming up with new ideas and new ways to get students excited about learning!
I will be offering a variety of classes in upper elementary and middle school science, drama, general middle school issues, and holistic health/wellness. Other classes will combine my love to focus on certain scientific ideas. Lastly, I am working to create a course that focuses on Next Generation Science and Engineering Practices. Student-Driven Learning is my thing!
As a middle school student, I hated science. I only took what I needed to in high school. It wasn't until I ended up in an ecology class in college that I realized science was interesting! I realized that it was my professor's passion for his topic that lured me in. He was able to get me excited about science and my ability to understand! I strive to be the example my professor was for me for my students.
I have a professional teaching license from the state of Michigan to teach grades K-9.
In my free time, I love to kayak, perform, travel, and spend time in nature!
