3D printing is all the rage right now. With a little yarn and some knitting needles, this course is a great place to start learning all the basics to get you "3D printing" hats, mittens, scarves and more in no time. SOME EXPERIENCE is required for this class. Students will need to know how to cast on, cast off and do the knit stitch. Although these skills will be reviewed in this course, students will not have the time to learn them from the beginning if they want to learn the new skill of...
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn the basics of knitting including: - reviewing how to cast on - reviewing how to do the knit stitch - how to do the purl stitch - reviewing how to cast off/finish a piece
I have been knitting for many years (approximately seven (7)). I am experienced in knitting scarves, hats, mittens, and more using a wide variety of stitches and patterns! I can't wait to share my knowledge with you so you can create knitted pieces of your own!
Learners will have homework each week After week one (1) students will need to cast on between 10 and 20 stitches onto their needle and use the knit stitch to knit one (1) row. After week two (2) students will need to use the knit and purl stitch (alternating rows) to knit ten (10) rows (five (5) knit and five (5) purl) After week three (3) students will need to use the knit and purl stitch (alternating rows) to knit until their piece is approximately square. After week four (4) students will to cast off all of their stitches to finish their square knit piece. After each weekly lesson, students will need to post a photo or video clip of themselves performing one of the skills or of their finished work or their work in progress to the OutSchool classroom. Students will be able to ask questions in the classroom about anything they did not understand or need clarification on regarding the topics covered in that week’s class. The teacher will respond to each post with advice, feedback, and encouragement. Students should offer positive feedback on each other’s work to provide their classmates with encouragement as well.
- a set of straight knitting needles (any size) - I prefer larger needles for beginners - a skein/ball of yarn (any size or color) - I prefer thicker yarn for beginners - a darning needle (a needle with a large enough eye to fit your yarn through) for week 4 - a willingness to try and make mistakes
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
