Class Experience

Your student will learn to draw two basic characters and lava monster from my family-friendly and lighthearted original story "Sky Rangers". They will draw these characters into a short scene from that graphic novel and learn 3 basic camera shots, one-point perspective and basics of creating a scene.

I will be sharing my screen and drawing in Photoshop. It will be a learn and draw as I teach so all you need handy is some notebook/copy paper and a sharp pencil! Interaction between students will be minimal since the 90 minutes will be jammed packed with instruction. No required experience is needed!

Learning Goals

- Basics of character design. Learn to draw "Lemon Drop" the robot, "Buttons" the warrior bunny and three-eyed lava monster.
- Basic camera techniques to tell a story without words.
- One-point perspective
- Tips on how to write a scene

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am a professional artist with a B.A. in Visual Communications from Judson University and 17 years of graphic design and illustration experience. I have written and illustrated four graphic novels for a children's publishing house as well as illustrated/designed numerous children's books. I teach Graphic Novel: Art & Storytelling classes where kids learn the basics of character design, basic art and visual & written storytelling.

I believe kids are the best storytellers! I have three kids of my own and love seeing their unhindered raw creativity unleashed through storytelling.
