Description
Class Experience
I have a degree in Graphic Design and have been a web designer for over 20 years. I believe that the art of graphic design, or at the very least an appreciation for that art, is something that everyone should practice. Graphic design floods our visual perception from everywhere, from the products we buy to the advertisements we are exposed to. I want to share my knowledge of graphic design so that kids understand the basic elements and can build on that to become creative critical thinkers.
Week 1 - Use typeface and arrangement to illustrate two words Week 2 - Use typeface, line spacing, etc. to illustrate the interpretation of a statement through visual poetry and to convey the meaning of a favorite quote Week 3 - Consider font combinations by creating a funny ransom note and an event advertisement poster
Paper, pencils, eraser, colored pencils/markers and/or digital software the student is comfortable using.
LOOKING FOR HIGH SCHOOL ART CREDITS? The Introduction to Graphic Design series is a great way to earn art credits for high school. I will provide a written assessment of student's performance in class that is based on class participation, timeliness of submissions, and overall work. Please contact me in advance.
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
*Class 1 - our lecture includes examples of typography choice failures. While the words themselves are not inappropriate, the way they are displayed look like inappropriate words.
