Class Experience

Learning to identify sources of gluten and what to look for when purchasing ingredients is the first step in baking gluten-free. We will discuss flour alternatives and what to watch for in other baking ingredients; questions are always welcome.

You will learn:
*    Kitchen and food safety
*    Measurements
*    Common kitchen tools
* A brief discussion about gluten and what it is
* Gluten-free baking is not hard with the right ingredients

We will prepare a pan of delicious gluten-free brownies (recipe provided in the classroom forum).

This is a hands-on course designed for open discussion. You will need to obtain ingredients before class; a list of ingredients will be provided on the classroom page for you to purchase from your local grocery store.

Learning Goals

Baking not only introduces children to kitchen safety and meal preparation, but it also enhances vocabulary, comprehension, retention, attention, and reasoning skills. Not to mention math is a huge part of baking!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been preparing gluten-free dishes for our family of five for over ten years. I am a Certified Natural Nutritionist, and due to Celiacs (gluten allergy) had to learn how to educate myself about sources of gluten. I have always loved to bake, so gluten-free was a challenge, in the beginning, having to learn how to bake all over again should be enjoyable and freeing.
