Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8

By the end of this course, students with an interest in game development will have a clear idea of whether they want to continue exploring this field. This focused course is the perfect hands-on introduction for those curious about how video games are made.

Instead of starting a new game from scratch, this course is designed to give learners a jump-start understanding with concrete examples and a behind-the-scenes look of a completed micro platforming game. We do this by exploring the provided project shown in the introductory video above. Students can choose to dive into the code and make changes alongside me, or just follow along and see what game code looks like.

I work hard to ensure a consistent and high-quality on-demand classroom experience. This includes clear and concise lesson plans, course structure, high-fidelity audio and video, and accessibility considerations. If you have any questions you'd like answered before signing up, please don't hesitate to reach out.

This introductory class explores some topics that are also covered in my popular “How to Make Your First Video Game - An Introduction for Absolute Beginners” course. Due to that overlap, this course includes a $10 coupon for the “How to Make Your First Video Game” listing. If you would like more details on that 6-week deep dive experience, please check out my listings on my teacher profile page.
