Students will create their first game in Roblox Studio (the floor is made of lava). Discover the exciting world of game design with our one-session introductory course on Roblox Studio. This class offers students a hands-on experience in designing a game while exploring various aspects of Roblox Studio, such as styling and placing parts, working with models, and getting an introduction to Lua coding. This course will provide a solid foundation for students interested in our future in-depth classes on Roblox game development. Course Outline: Introduction to Roblox and Roblox Studio a. Brief overview of the Roblox platform b. Setting up and navigating Roblox Studio Styling and Placing Parts a. Creating and customizing parts in Roblox Studio b. Changing part properties, such as color, material, and size c. Placing and arranging parts to design a game environment Intro to Lua Coding a. Overview of Lua programming in Roblox b. Using Lua scripts to interact with game elements Anchoring Parts and Part Properties a. Anchoring parts to prevent them from falling or moving b. Exploring other part properties, such as transparency, reflectance, and collisions Course Duration: 1 hour Target Audience: 9 to 12-year-olds Materials and Requirements: A computer: Ensure you have a computer with the necessary system requirements to run Roblox and Roblox Studio smoothly. The system should have at least a 1.6 GHz processor, 1 GB of system memory (RAM), and DirectX 9 compatible GPU. For a better experience, a more powerful computer with a faster processor, more RAM, and a dedicated graphics card is recommended. Roblox account: Sign up for a free Roblox account if you haven't already. This account will allow you to access and use Roblox Studio and save your work on the platform. Roblox Studio: Download and install Roblox Studio on your computer. It is a free development tool provided by Roblox, which you will use to create and design your games throughout the class. Internet access: A stable internet connection is necessary for downloading Roblox Studio, accessing the platform, and working on your projects during the class. Optional: A mouse and keyboard are recommended for ease of navigation and better control while working in Roblox Studio.
