Class Experience

Bonjour and welcome to Level 4 Beginner's French! This class is designed for beginning French students. This class assumes some prior knowledge. Students should have a basic understanding of: greetings, pronouns, conjugation of verbs, including irregular verbs avoir and être, alphabet, colors, numbers, and basic grammar such as gender of nouns. This course focuses on using basic vocabulary, grammar, and verbs to begin speaking more independently and confidently. Throughout the lessons, we will focus on verb conjugation, noun-adjective agreement, negative sentences, and asking questions. Students will be encouraged to begin answering and speaking independently. This class will apply the "I do, We do, You do" method to build confidence in speaking independently. Each lesson will focus on a speaking theme. Students will be provided vocabulary and sentence structures before class that we will use to practice conversation during class. Students will be most comfortable if they study the vocabulary and sentences before class but are also encouraged to have notes handy in class so they can reference them. At this level, a lot of support will be provided in speaking, using a "fill in the blank" format until students are ready to answer more independently.

My goal for this class is for your learner to gain confidence in speaking independently and in applying the vocabulary they've learned to express their own ideas.

Learning Goals

Students will gain confidence in learning and speaking French and learn core vocabulary. Students will be able to use key words and phrases to express their own ideas. Students will be able to express key phrases and vocabulary to describe themselves and daily topics such as food, school, family, and emotions. Students will also learn and practice verb conjugations.
