In the course, learners will learn how to create their own folded book art! There are a bunch of different patterns out there for folded book art, but this class will go over specifically how to create the word "READ" in the pages of the book. This class is structured based on a "I do, you do, we do" method. This method is where I demonstrate how to fold the pages, then watch the students fold them and keep an eye out for mistakes that we can fix together, answer questions, and then fold...
The student will learn how to create folded book art, and practice precise measuring skills in centimeters and millimeters, as well as following mathematical equations to find the center of our books and our starting pages. The mathematical equations will all be done with my help so the students don't need to know how to do that ahead of time.
There is no homework prior to this course. However, finishing folding the entire book will need to be completed after class. This is because the 60 minute class will not be enough time to complete folding the entire book. However, it will be a perfect amount of time to set up each learner with the ability to finish the rest of the book on their own time after the class is completed. They will have a good starting point, and a pattern to follow for the folding of the rest of the book when class is finished.
- A hardcover book with AT LEAST 438 pages or MORE (preferably one that your learner has already read, or has no desire to read, because after the pages are folded, they all would need to be individually unfolded in order to read the book) *when selecting hardcover book, be mindful of which one would look the best on display* - A pencil - A ruler with centimeter and millimeter markings
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
There will be formative assessments throughout the 60 minute course by informally viewing each of the students' progress on the folded books. These formative assessments are just to ensure that each learner is on track with what is being done so that they will have all the tools they need in order to complete it on their own time after class.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
