Class Experience
Evolution and extinction are complex and exciting topics but can be hard to understand when lacking a basic understanding of genetics (usually not covered until middle school) The purpose of this class is to introduce how and why some animals go extinct while others do not, as well as how plants and animals change over time. We will explore "Big Picture" ideas such as: traits, DNA, adaptations, fitness, evolution and extinction; in a developmentally appropriate manner. Similar to my other...
Student will get an introduction to how any why certain living things go extinct, while others do not. They will also learn how living things change over time. Topics explored include: evolution, traits, DNA, populations, adaptations, survival, habitat, environmental pressures, and extinction. Learners will meet 6 LIVE animal friends to help us explore these big ideas.
BS - Wildlife Management and Conservation (minor in theater arts) AS - Wildlife Education/Exotic Animal Training and Management Certification - The Project WILD program (wildlife-based conservation and environmental education through CDFW) 20+ years experience in wildlife education Owner/educator - Doodlebugs Animal Adventures Mom of two curious elementary school age kiddos that will change the world!
No homework is assigned for this class. Rather, I encourage all my learners to continue exploring the world around them and to always...STAY CURIOUS.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This class covers the topic of evolution. We teach from a purely scientific standpoint with no theological perspective.
