Class description: Each week students will have suggested enrichment to enhance their understanding of the concepts we discussed in class. While this is posted as homework, it is optional but will be suggested as beneficial to their understanding of the topics, will help enhance their understanding and ability to communicate ideas in class, and will also help guide them as they begin to think of project ideas for our final class. Class 1: What is environmental science? How we interact with...
Students will gather and collect data. Students will discuss and analyze science, technology, and problems. Students will be able to discuss scientific vocabulary. Students will relate what is discussed in class to their own communities and communities around the world. Students will discuss science advancements and current needs as they pertain to humans and nature.
Each week students will be given ideas for enrichment between classes. Homework is not mandatory and is considered optional though it will enrich their learning experience and help them understand the concepts covered in class.
Materials needed for this class will vary based on the project/presentation ideas of each student. I will also support students who choose to use research for their projects rather than creating hands-on experiments so that no materials would be necessary, if the student chooses a research-based project.
While no formal grade is given, if guardians request a final grade for data-tracking purposes, I can provide a grade on request. The final projects will have a rubric but this is solely to help guide the students in their project/presentation and ensure they are including everything they feel is necessary. I prefer that students self-assess and I provide individual feedback for each student privately.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
