I have a Bachelor's of Arts in English from Marist College and have been working as a substitute teacher for a school district in New York. I am offering this class to help build a solid foundation for the academic English. Teaching mostly in middle and high schools, it has become apparent to me that modern students have a weak foundation in English Language Arts. So much emphasis is placed on technology that teaching basic grammar and comprehension skills have become obsolete. Students' comprehension skills are very basic in structure and effort. So, I have decided to become part of the solution.
Homework will be given nightly and should be completed within an hour and turned in prior to next class. Homework will cover the topics of the day. It may include worksheets and/or website.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Parents and students will receive weekly student progress reports. Students will be graded on attendance, class participation, classroom activities, homework and class projects (ex. writing a paragraph, take-home quiz).
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
