Class Experience

This class is for everyone who loves watching and drawing everything related to Ghibli animation! It is also great for everyone who wants to give drawing anime a first try.
In this lesson we will use a simple graphite pencil and learn how to draw anything from the basic shapes. I will explain every step in detail and do my best to make the drawing experience fun and easy to follow.

We will touch base on composition, talk about drawing the main character and creating a scene. We will also learn how to write some Japanese words and discuss anime “My Neighbor Totoro”.

I will do my best to accommodate each student's unique set of skills and pace. We will draw our main character Totoro and complete a scene around him. If time allows we will also talk about shading techniques. Please note that we will not be doing colouring in the class. We will finish the line drawing of the scene in the class and students will be invited to colour it on their own after the class.

Each student will be invited to share their results at the end of the class and will be able to receive a feedback.

Please notice that this class targets beginner artists. If your child has a lot of drawing experience I suggest you signing up for my other anime drawing classes listed below, as this Totoro drawing might be too easy for your young artist.

* Due to this class being in very high demand and me being able to accommodate a limited number of classes each week, only transfers with 24 hours notice or more will be granted.

Hello! My name is Karina, I am a professional educator, artist and linguist. At this point, I have over 12 years of experience teaching students of all ages, both in-person and on-line.
I'm also proud to be one of the top art teachers on Outschool with over 7000 learners taking my classes since July 2020.

I was born in Ukraine in a family of teachers and I always wanted to become a teacher myself, gratefully my dream came true! I started as a private language tutor in Russia back in 2011, and since then I have been traveling around the world and teaching language classes. I'm a TESOL certified instructor with a BA degree in Linguistics. For five years I worked as a full-time English and Russian language instructor for language schools in China and Japan and it was an amazing journey of discovering new languages, meeting amazing people and learning how to approach students with different sets of skills and backgrounds.

After living and working in Asia for over five years I came to Canada, where I continue to teach private and group classes, both in-person and on-line.

Other than studying linguistics, I received multiple certifications from School of Fine Arts in Moscow and have been working as a professional artist since 2015. My artwork has been exhibited and sold all around the globe. In the past few years, I managed to successfully combine my passion for visual arts with my love for working with children to create unique, fun and educational art courses. I specialize in Realistic Drawing, Creative Drawing, Anime Drawing and Watercolour painting.

The most important thing for me as a teacher is to make my students feel supported and valued. Each child has an awesome potential and discovering it together with my students is the greatest gift for me as a teacher.

I’m looking forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with my students.

Thank you!
See you in the classroom!
