50 mins in-class hoursAssessment
Students will be assessed informally during and after the class. They will be encouraged to ask questions along the way and discuss what we’ve done at the end of class.Class Experience
During this class, students will follow along with the instructor to create line drawings of horses. We will begin with an introduction to proportions and the concept of contour drawing. Students will work step-by-step along with the instructor. Each drawing will be unique in the interpretation of proportion, character of lines and mark making. Students will be encouraged to develop skills while also having fun in a relaxed atmosphere. Students will be encouraged to stay on pace with the class and come back for finer details later. *cover artwork by Aila, age 9. Project drawing will be similar but not exact.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to measure proportions without rulers or tools. Students will learn about how to see basic shapes in everyday objects and will also learn how light pressure applied with the pencil allows for ease of sketching and corrections during the drawing. In this particular drawing the head and neck of the horse will be featured.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
For younger students or students with special needs, guardians may choose to be available off camera. This may be helpful to remind students not to stress about the timing of step-by-step instructions. The instructor will provide reminders as well - moving from one step to another is important and students may go back for fine-tuning steps of the drawing later.
