Beginner Level
We will break down the foundation skills of crochet into 4 weeks of work. This gives students time to practice each new skill before moving on as well as giving each student a chance to follow up with me in the next class if they need help. Listed below are the skills we will learn each week. 1. Week One: Let’s Start! Holding yarn, holding your hook, slip stitch, chain, and single crochet into a chain. 2. Week Two: Building Rows! Standard single crochet stitch, make a turning chain, and turning your work. 3. Week Three: Let’s Count Stitches! Correcting warped work, using stitch markers, and counting stitches. 4. Week Four: Wrap Up Class! We’ll have time to review and ask follow-up questions. We’ll learn how to fasten off and weave in ends. After each class, I will post a google drive link in the classroom. This takes you to a video I made that demonstrates the skill(s) of the week. This way, students can continue to practice at home with confidence.

Supply List
1. Yarn -(choose ONE ball of yarn) size 5 or size 6. These sizes are also called bulky (5) and super bulky (6). The smaller the yarn, the more difficult it will be to use. 2. A crochet hook that corresponds to your chosen yarn (I will include a video about this). 3. Stitch markers. (They should be able to open) These can be purchased at craft stores/online (Amazon has 100 for $4.99) You can also use paper clips as stitch markers. Students should start with at least 5 stitch markers but most packs have more than that. 4. Scissors **The yarn I use in class is Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick (this is a size 6 super bulky yarn). I use a big hook with this. Usually size 9mm, 10mm, or 11mm.

For my group classes, I offer a weekly video that I recorded for my students to be able to practice outside of class without having to watch the entire 50 minute class back. I link these videos in the Outschool Classroom page each week after the lesson ends.
These videos are accessed through Google Drive as Outschool currently cannot upload them directly in the classroom.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Brittany and I’m excited to help your child tap into their creative side. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art with a minor in Bookmaking. I have experience teaching adults and children of all ages in museum and summer camp settings. I also have 3 years of experience in online teaching.
I firmly believe that anyone can make art they are proud of. I want to teach your child some tips and tricks for thinking like an artist. I always want to prioritize the idea of adding “yet” when we feel overwhelmed. “I can’t do this…YET!”
I have two very serious studio assistants (cats) who like to see what we’re working on. I am an avid reader, knitter, and crocheter and would love to add classes in these areas soon. See you in class!
