This 10-week class will cover the critical analysis essay and research paper. A critical analysis essay is used to discern and analyze an author’s argument in an essay or text. In this class learners will be working with non-fiction texts, not literature. A research paper requires the learner to choose a topic, sift through existing research and arguments, form their own thesis, conduct research, and articulate their own clear argument. This class is for learners who want to learn more...
This class is taught in English.
Homework assignments will include but are not limited to, essays, written responses, analyses, readings, peer reviews, and presentations. Students should plan to spend 1-2 hours per week outside of class to complete assignments. All homework assignments are part of the curriculum sequence and should be completed in order so the learner does not become confused. In general, all homework assignments are due every Friday by 10 pm EST to allow the teacher time to provide feedback. I provide feedback on every assignment.
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
The teacher will provide all learning materials. Occasionally, the learner will be directed to online instructional videos on YouTube (teacher-created) or websites and online resources they can access via any browser. Learners will use Padlet, an online bulletin board, to post their work and provide feedback on their peers' work. Learners do not have to make an account; they will access the classroom "board" through a link that I will post in the Outschool classroom.
