Let's learn how to code using Scratch! This class is an introduction to Scratch and coding. This is a great class to take for 1-2 weeks before jumping into our Video Game Coding Club that meets weekly! In this class students will not complete a full video game like they do in the Video Game class, but they will learn the basics of scratch such as:
-What is a sprite?
-How to make your character move side to side
-How to make your character jump
-How to change the background of your game
-How to add music and sound effects

Crazy Kid's offers 4 different types of coding classes:
-Level 1: Introduction to Coding with Scratch For Littles and Beginners
-Level 2: Video Game Coding Club - Ongoing
-Level 3: Intermediate Video Game Coding Club - Ongoing
-Private classes for students that prefer 1:1 instruction and moving at their own pace.

When kids learn to code and create their own games, they are are the creators, rather than just the user of someone else's creation. It is an excellent skill for technology loving kids that required problem solving, multitasking, creativity, and story telling. Through coding they learn the complexities of video game creation, and benefit from actually creating the game, rather than just playing the finished product. Once they've taken this class, they will be able to use their Scratch account and knowledge they've gained to continue making their own creations, even after class has ended.

In this class you will need a computer, mouse, keyboard, and a web browser open to https://scratch.mit.edu/. Please create a username and password before class starts so you can save the project we create. We will not be using Scratch Jr. or any apps in this class. This class works best if taken using two screens so students can easily see the teacher's screen and their own, but one screen will work too. You can use a tablet to have zoom running if you'd like, but the you will need a computer for using the Scratch program because students will need a mouse and keyboard. Students who are new to Scratch and younger students will likely need an adult near by to assist while they get the hang of things.

The last 10 minutes of class is set aside for students who need individual help. Students who have completed building the code and do not need individual help are welcome to stay the last 10 minutes of class, but they also have the option to leave after 60 minutes if they have completed the project without any issues.
