Join our interactive and engaging course that introduces students to the blocked-based visual programming language called Scratch. 🎮✨ 🚀 Introduction to Coding with Scratch 🧠🌈 Are you ready to dive into the world of coding and unleash your creativity? This class is designed for students with no prior coding experience and is the perfect starting point for those who have never used Scratch before. Through our project-based learning approach, students will develop critical thinking skills while exploring the possibilities of coding. 🧩 Syllabus: 📆 Day 1: Introduction to Scratch On the first day, students will embark on an exciting journey to discover the basics of Scratch. They will learn how to create sprites, incorporate sounds, utilize loops, and leverage variables to create interactive projects. This foundation will set the stage for their coding adventures. 📆 Day 2: Create a Pong Game In this session, students will apply their newfound Scratch knowledge to build a classic Pong game. They will learn how to code the game mechanics, create paddle movements, and even add a scoring system. Get ready for some competitive fun! 📆 Day 3: Dive into the Shark Eating Fish Game Take a deep dive into the underwater world as students create a thrilling shark eating fish game. They will learn to design sprites, code the movements of the shark and fish, and implement interactive elements. Will you be able to survive in this feeding frenzy? 📆 Day 4: Navigate the Minecraft Maze Calling all Minecraft enthusiasts! In this session, students will create their own Minecraft-inspired maze game. They will learn to design intricate mazes, code character movements, and incorporate obstacles. Use your coding skills to navigate through the virtual labyrinth! 📆 Day 5: Join the Cat and Mouse Chase Get ready for some feline fun! In the final session, students will design a cat chasing mouse game. They will learn how to create animated sprites, implement collision detection, and develop clever gameplay mechanics. Will the cat catch the elusive mouse? 🎮 This class emphasizes project-based learning, allowing students to apply their coding skills in a practical and interactive manner. Our instructors foster a supportive environment where students can ask questions and receive guidance throughout the course. 💡 Join us on Outschool and let your creativity soar as you explore the endless possibilities of coding with Scratch. Enroll now to embark on a transformative coding journey! 🌟🎉 ---------------------------- REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASS: Saving Documents: 1. Students will be required to save a file on their desktop and load it on Scratch. I will have instructions on how to load the file. Parents must have knowledge on saving files on their desktop. (Most students require parental support, an email will be sent). This will need to be completed before coming to scheduled class. Coding: 1. Students will be required to have a desktop computer or a laptop to take this class in order to code on Scratch 3.0. Students should not be using tablets or iPad's. 2. Students are required to have a keyboard during class, this will help them code. 3. Students may take the class with one device but they will need to have two screens opened at the same time. Many students have trouble coding while they use split screen option. I do recommend two devices. One for Zoom and one for coding. 4. Students are required to have an account with Scratch. This will help them save their projects. The website is: https://scratch.mit.edu/ Zoom: 1. It is strongly encouraged to have two devices. One device for Zoom (laptop, desktop computer or tablet) and a second device for coding (no tablets or iPad's). Reading: Students should be able to read the blocks. Class will be difficult if they are unable to recognize the differences. Many of the blocks look similar.
